Description of the location
Città Sant’Angelo is a municipality in the province of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region, with a population of about 14,000 inhabitants. The city’s name is quite romantic and, translated from Italian, means “City of the Holy Angel.”
Città Sant’Angelo is included in the list of I Borghi più belli d’Italia (The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy). Forbes USA, in its global ranking of the best places to live and invest, ranked Città Sant’Angelo among the top ten cities for quality of life, offering an almost perfect balance between cost and well-being.
The ancient Roman historian Pliny the Elder already mentioned the city of Angelus, one of the four main cities of the Italic Vestini tribe. Since the 13th century, it has been referred to as Castrum Sancti Angeli (Fortress of the Holy Angels).
The historic center is located at an altitude of 320 meters above sea level. From the belvedere on the old fortress walls, you can admire breathtaking views of the valley, olive groves, and green hills, as well as the sea and the snow-capped peaks of the Gran Sasso and Maiella mountain ranges.
At the heart of the city stands the cathedral dedicated to its patron saint, Saint Michael the Archangel. Built in the 13th century, its 47-meter-high bell tower, which defines the city’s skyline, was added in 1425.
Shopping centers and small stores, bakeries and gelaterias, cafés and fruit shops, a pharmacy, and a school—everything is within easy reach.
The part of the city closer to the coast, located between Silvi and Montesilvano, is known as Marina di Città Sant’Angelo.
Città Sant’Angelo boasts a highly convenient location: the beaches are nearby, Pescara—the provincial capital and a hub for tourism and commerce—is just a 10-minute drive away, while the center of Rome can be reached in two hours.
